Cooled Semen

Collection, evaluation and cooling of semen is routine practice in our laboratory. It is recognized that the success of breeding by transported semen depends on the manner in which the semen is handled and prepared. A fully computerized laboratory is used to provide the highest quality semen evaluation.

In today’s competitive breeding industry, successful use of cooled transported semen is a must. We perform a ‘test-cool’ where we evaluate the effects of dilution rate, extender type and antibiotic toxicity on semen quality. This allows us to customize a cooled semen protocol for each stallion. Stallion owners need to know that they are using the best techniques to process their stallion’s semen so that they can confidently ship the best possible product to their clients. A stallion’s reputation can be severely or permanently damaged if mare owners are left with the impression that his semen “doesn’t ship well”.
