Veterinarian
Koen Carrein
Koen started at the Eifel Gold Ranch Baeck in May 2005. His area of special interest is equine reproduction. Besides the reproduction work; he does the common veterinary work at the ranch.
He is a graduate of Ghent University.
After finishing vet school in 2004 he went to the USA. He worked a few months with Dr. John McCarroll (Equine Medical Associates, Texas) , there he could practise his skills in lameness.
During his stay at Royal Vista Southwest in Oklahoma (www.royalvistasouthwest.com) he learned a lot about embryo transfer from Dr. James Bailey.
At S! elect Breeders Southwest (www.selectbreeders.com/sbsw.cfm), Whit Byers taught him about stallion fertility.
After finishing 2005 breeding season in Belgium, he went back to the States for a few months to work with Dr. John McCarroll. He also worked at the AQHA world show for a few weeks with Dr. David McCarroll (www.interstateequine.com).
In the autumn of 2006, he went to the southern hemisphere to work during the Australian breeding season. He stayed a few weeks at Agnes Banks Equine Clinic, a referral equine hospital (www.agnesbanksequineclinic.com.au).
He went a week to Scone Veterinary Hospital, located in the horse capital of Australia. He worked at the neonatal intensive care unit with Dr. Jane Axon(www.sconevet.com.au).
Most of the time in Australia! he spent with Dr. Alan Simson, Ellerston Veterinary Centre. To work there with the Packers polo horses was a great experience, and it was a great place!
In 2007 he followed the event veterinarian course to become a FEI-vet.
